I was recently talking to a co-worker about being a travel planner, and she asked me, “What’s the fee for your service?” That’s when I realized that most people have a misconception about travel specialists.  

I like to use the analogy of buying a house to explain how travel agents make their commission. When purchasing a new home the buyer is not responsible for the commission. The seller is responsible for paying the commission to the real estate agent.

Buying your travel package works in the same way. As the buyer you are not responsible for any commissions. The travel vendors pay the commission. Travel consultants are also similar to brokers, this means I have access to a large variety of products, but I am not obligated to any particular cruise or travel packages. That allows me to be honest about which travel company will best fit your needs.
